Katerina Istomin, viola - May 13th, 2006

Katerina Istomin began her music studies at age 10 on the violin and piano. She won several competitions including the Duquesne young Artist's Competition in both the solo piano and duo piano divisions. Katerina started playing viola at the age of 16. She began her studies with Ms. Tatjana Mead-Chamis and later continued with Mr. Randolph Kelly. Katerina was principal viola of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony in the 2002-2003 season. She has also won several competitions such as the Pittsburgh concert Society Young Artist's Auditions and she is a recipient of the Tuesday Musical Club Stephan Foster Memorial Scholarship. While still in high school she was a member of the Callisto String Quartet, comprised of all Pittsburgh Youth Symphony members, They too achieved many awards in the Pittsburgh Area. Katerina is currently a sophomore at The Julliard School in New York. There she studies with Ms. Heidi Castleman and Mr. Misha Amory. this summer she will be attending the Sarasota Music Festival and the Orford Arts Center Festival in Canada.
