About the East Allegheny Symphony Orchestra

The East Allegheny Symphony Orchestra has been performing since 1970. The group is currently comprised of approximately 100 - 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12 graders. The EA string sections rehearse five times per week during the regular school day and have combined after school rehearsals with the woodwinds, brass and percussion in preparation for performances. The woodwind, brass, and percussion are selected from the top musicians the East Allegheny Wildcat Band. They meet with the first period strings section once a week. They also rehearse for two hours after school every week. Throughout its existence, the East Allegheny Symphony Orchestra has traveled extensively, performing throughout the Eastern United States and Canada. Most recently the Orchestra performed at the Disney Market Place in Orlando, Florida. The Orchestra also has a long history of recorded performances, and recently available is a CD compilation of the 2004-2005 Concert Seasons.

It is significant to note that in all the competitions over the years, the Symphony has never earned any rating other than "Superior" which is the highest possible, and they have also never finished in less than "First Place".
